Bond University Master of International Relations / Master of International Relations (Professional): a global applicant's guide to entry and duration

Published:

Bond University offers two coursework masters in international relations, and they differ mainly in length and credit load. The Master of International Relations runs 1 year over 3 semesters and totals 120 credit points. The Master of International Relations (Professional) runs 92 weeks and totals 165 credit points. Both ask for the same prior degree fields and the same English scores.

The two programs at a glance

The Master of International Relations has program code HS-23097 and CRICOS code 078661G. The Master of International Relations (Professional) has program code HS-23078 and CRICOS code 063306E.

Both are listed as Masters Degree (Coursework). Both sit in the study area "International Relations, Politics, and Arts".

Duration: 1 year versus 92 weeks

The Master of International Relations can be completed in 1 year, which Bond describes as 3 semesters. Bond presents this as a way to finish a postgraduate degree with minimal disruption to work and family commitments.

The Professional version is listed at 92 weeks. The extra time comes with a larger credit load, covered below.

Credit structure

The Master of International Relations totals 120 credit points.

The Professional version totals 165 credit points. Of these, 145 are compulsory subject credit points and 20 are elective credit points. The electives are there to tailor the degree. Bond says students in this program can shape their studies around their preferred professional and career interests.

Who can apply: prior degree requirements

Both programs use the same admission criterion. Applicants need to have successfully completed a recognised Bachelor degree, or an equivalent qualification. The degree must be in one of four areas:

Requirements listed for applicants from China and Taiwan

For applicants from China, Bond lists a recognised 4-year Bachelor degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree. The same qualification is listed for applicants from Taiwan.

For both countries, the degree field requirement is the same as above. The degree must be in global studies, social sciences, society and culture, or business and management.

English language requirements

The two programs share the same published scores for the two tests below.

How the classroom is described

For both programs, Bond says students learn from international relations experts in small, discussion-based groups. These groups are meant to give opportunities for interaction and collaboration.

Choosing between the two

If a shorter, lighter credit load matters most, the 1-year, 120-credit-point program is the one that fits. If a longer degree with 20 elective credit points and a career-focused emphasis appeals more, the 92-week, 165-credit-point Professional program fits better. Entry degree fields and English scores are the same for both, so they do not separate the choice.

学费、入学时间以及这些要求的任何更新,以邦德大学当年的官方公告为准。
