Haileybury Rendall School (黑利伯瑞任朵学校) is a private co-educational school in Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, teaching from Early Learning to Year 12 with day, boarding and online options. Who Haileybury Rendall School is
Haileybury Rendall School is part of the One Haileybury network, which the school describes as a leading educational group with four Melbourne campuses, the online school Haileybury Pangea, and an international campus in Tianjin, China. The Darwin campus sits on a site with a long history: an Australian Army Hospital during the 1940s, then a QANTAS transit point, and from 1968 the home of Kormilda College, a boarding school established for Indigenous children from remote communities. Haileybury acquired the college in 2017, and Haileybury Rendall School was officially opened in 2018. The school’s Principal is Andrew McGregor. It holds CRICOS registration No 0097ID, which is the registration that allows international students to study in Australia on a student visa.
Programs: Australian Curriculum and VCE
Haileybury Rendall School’s course of studies is based on the Australian Curriculum up to Year 9 and the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) from Years 10 to 12, both developed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). In the junior years, teachers use an explicit instruction approach to literacy and numeracy; the middle years emphasise deeper understanding and higher-level outcomes; and the senior years deliver the VCE aligned with Haileybury Melbourne, letting students begin VCE studies in Year 10. Units 1 and 2 are studied at Year 11 level and Units 3 and 4 at Year 12 level, with a breadth of VCE subjects including Tourism and Art, Music, and Sport and Recreation, plus Applied Learning options. International students are welcomed from Years 7–12, with limited places at each year level; the school’s business notice states a preference for enrolling international students from Year 9 and above, with younger students considered only with the Principal’s special permission.
Entry requirements and the AEAS bands
Applications to Haileybury Rendall School are made on the school’s Application for Enrolment. Prospective students from non-English-speaking backgrounds must sit the Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS) test — English Language Proficiency, General Ability and Mathematical Reasoning — at their own expense before applying, and applications must include the AEAS report plus school reports translated to English from the previous two semesters. As a guide, an AEAS English score of 50–70 makes a student eligible to apply, with a score of 50 indicating the student may need up to three terms in the English Language Program; 70+ allows immediate participation in standard curriculum classes; and students applying for Year 11 entry should ideally score 80+. The school may request an interview and mandatory numeracy and literacy testing, and may require ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students) study before entry. Admission is conditional on place availability, satisfactory progress in the student’s current schooling, sufficient English proficiency, and the school’s assessment of suitability. Transfers from other schools are generally not accepted, and a transfer from another registered provider within the first six months of study requires a letter of release.
The 2026 international fee schedule
Under the Haileybury Rendall School 2026 International Schedule of Tuition Fees and Charges (2026-08 edition), tuition in 2026 is 37,310 AUD for Year 7, 38,370 AUD for Years 8 and 9, and 38,815 AUD for Years 10–12. Boarding is 36,320 AUD per year at every year level and covers term-time residency with three meals a day, seven days a week during the academic term, including 1,047 AUD of GST. Combined tuition and boarding therefore run to 73,630 AUD for Year 7, 74,690 AUD for Years 8 and 9, and 75,135 AUD for Years 10–12. On top of this, a non-refundable, non-transferable entrance fee of 2,350 AUD applies on acceptance (including 300 AUD contributed to the Old Haileyburians Association for life membership), in the same 2026-08 schedule. The Managed Device Program, compulsory for Years 5–9 and optional thereafter, costs approximately 1,441 AUD including GST, and textbooks and calculators add roughly 800 AUD per year in the 2026-08 edition. Boarding and student life
Haileybury Rendall School has three boarding houses accommodating 60 students across male and female residences, with single and dual-occupancy rooms; the residences are separate but connected through common living spaces for study and socialising. The large cafeteria and dining hall offers diverse international options and the kitchen is informed of dietary requirements including allergies. Daily structure includes a tutor period from 8:35am, classes from 8:45am, supervised homework support from 3:00pm, afternoon and evening activities, community dinner at 6:00pm, and lights out at 10:00pm. Weekends run on a structured activities program with national parks, beaches, markets and water-based experiences. An on-call nurse and a nearby medical clinic support student health, with Darwin Hospital about 10 minutes away. Boarders may take weekend or evening sign-outs to an approved person identified by their parents, and extended leave is handled through a pastoral leave application. Airport transport is supervised by boarding staff.
Application flow and term dates
Acceptance of an offer at Haileybury Rendall School requires parents to return a signed acceptance form, provide a copy of the student’s birth certificate, and pay the entrance fee, the health insurance fee where the school coordinates cover, and half of the first year’s annual fee. Annual fees are charged in advance for each semester and are payable by credit card or electronic funds transfer; no cash is accepted. Haileybury Rendall School issues the CoE from PRISMS so the student can apply for the relevant student visa, and students must hold private health insurance — Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) — for the duration of their stay, which the school can arrange through Medibank Private.
